Pharmaceutical industry benchmarks and feedback from employees guide our decisions.

NOTE: This communication does not create a contract or replace the actual plan documents or Summary Plan Descriptions. While we have tried to be as accurate as possible in developing this highlights summary, the official plan documents govern in all cases.

New Employees

Coverage for most MERIALChoice benefits begins on the day you join Merial. Prior to your first day, you will be mailed a package that explains your core and additional benefits and includes the necessary enrollment forms. On your first day, a Merial Human Resources Representative or your manager will meet with you to help you enroll and to answer any questions you may have concerning your benefits package. You have 30 days from your date of hire to complete and return any enrollment or change forms to your Human resources office. After the initial 30-day enrollment period, you may only change enrollment selections due to a "qualifying life event" or during annual Open Enrollment.

Because you are paying for your medical and dental benefits on a pre-tax basis, the IRS prohibits changes or cancellation of benefits for you or your family members during a plan year, except in the case of a "qualifying life event." Qualifying life events include: marriage or divorce; birth or adoption of a child; your spouse’s gaining or losing coverage because of a change in employment; death of an immediate family member (e.g., spouse or child); change in employment status (e.g., from full-time to part-time status); and relocation out of a network service area.

NOTE: To preserve the tax advantage of many of these plans, the only changes the IRS allows are those consistent with and logically affected by the qualifying life event you have experience. Changes must be reported in writing within 30 days of the event.

Comprehensive Healthcare Protection

Medical Plan

If elected, coverage begins on your date of hire for you and your eligible dependents. Most participants will access the Aetna Signature Administrator network. Employees in Athens and Gainesville, GA and Fulton, MO, will access local networks.

Prescription Drug Plan from Medco

Included with your Medical Plan enrollment.  Employees and enrolled dependents pay low co-pays for each one-month retail pharmacy supply of generic, preferred and non-preferred medications respectively.  Save by buying a three-month supply of maintenance type drugs through Medco by Mail for only 2½ times the monthly co-pay amount.

Vision Plan

Included with your Medical Plan enrollment. Provides discounts at 30,000 participating vision service providers nationwide.

Dental Plan

If elected, coverage begins on your date of hire for you and your eligible dependents.  Orthodontia benefits are available for dependents under age 19.
